The reality of conditioner versus reconstructors - Tip of the month for February 2010

When choosing a product to benefit one's hair, be wary of the term "conditioner". As Webster definites condition, it states "that which alters the state of something from one condition to another". Therefore, water is a "legal conditioner" altering your hair from dry to wet. If a manufacturer wants their product to be known as a "protein" conditioner it must have legally 2.5% protein by volume (97.5% water and 2.5% protein equals "protein conditioner". Add in varying grades of protein which can be added, and we think we have a better solution...

We recommending looking for the terms "reconstructing" or "restructuring" when buying a conditioner or shampoo. This can indicate something that will actually benefit your hair instead of placating it or just giving it a veneer of healthyness.

Please refer to our last tip. To recap, when you use a reconstructor, you need to open up your hair to receive the benefits. This is done by first shampooing your hair when you get in the shower, then towel-blotting your hair to remove excess water from the gaps in your hair, and then applying conditioner to re-enter the gaps in your hair where it can do real benefit. Tie up your hair after applying conditioner, then do your usual shaving, scrubbing, buffing, soaking, and at the very end rinse your hair with cool water to turn your shower time into reconstructing time.

Restoring Shine - Tip of the month for January 2010

Repairing damaged, frizzy, or dry hair shafts is super important. The result of colouring, styling with heat tools, and over the counter shampoos, gels or hair sprays create porosity.

Damaged Hair

After rinsing hair of shampoo, one senses the "squeaky clean" feeling. The "squeak" means the porous ends of the hair is now pronounced. The gaps, holes, and damaged parts of the hair create wells and reservoirs where water collects, which reduce the benefits of any conditioner. This is because the water is diluting the benefits of the conditioner where it is needed the most, in the gaps of the damaged hair, taken up by the water.

Healthy Hair

The solution: By tower blotting mid-shaft to the ends of the hair, once extracts the water out of the gaps and magnifies the intensity of the conditioner. This allows you to do three times the benefits in a quarter of the time, with just half as much conditioner as before. To sum it up, towel blotting is the key to keeping the integrity of the hair intact. Keeping the integrity of the hair reduces color fading, frizzyness, and imparts shine and better control.

Next tip will go more into conditioners and reconstructors, so please check back.
